Temporary Service Update: Document Deduplication

We want to inform you about a temporary change in our service. Earlier today, we realized that our upcoming Rust-based backend was accidentally enabled in production for all users after wellbeing week. While this new infrastructure represents significant technical improvements for Skatteguru's future, the version that was released is still under active development and not yet considered ready for production use. We're surprised that it has been working quite well all this time and that we haven't had any major issues. But there are some known gaps in features.
What This Means for You
As a result of this deployment, our automatic document deduplication feature is currently not functioning. This means that if you upload documents that contain the same trade information multiple times, it will be processed as separate entries rather than being recognized as a duplicate. There could be other issues that we are not yet aware of.
Please Be Mindful When Uploading
Please Be Patient
Important Guidance for E*Trade Users
We want to take this opportunity to clarify an important point about which E*Trade documents you should upload to Skatteguru.
E*Trade Trade Confirmation Guidance
Trades resulting from stock option exercises are already documented through your E*Trade Option Exercise statements, and uploading the corresponding Trade Confirmations would result in duplicate records of the same transaction.
For example, if you exercised stock options through E*Trade, you will receive both an Option Exercise Statement and aTrade Confirmation for the resulting shares. The Option Exercise Statement contains all the information needed for tax reporting purposes. Uploading the Trade Confirmation for this specific transaction would create a duplicate entry.
When to Upload Trade Confirmations
You should upload E*Trade Trade Confirmations for:
- Standard buy and sell orders you placed manually
- Trades executed through brokerage accounts (not option exercises)
- Any other securities transactions not related to option exercises
Next Steps and Timeline
We are actively working to complete the Rust backend and restore full functionality and more. We expect the deduplication feature to be restored soon. In the meantime, we recommend:
- Review your existing files before uploading to check for duplicates
- Follow the guidance above regarding E*Trade Trade Confirmations
- Contact support if you encounter any issues with duplicate documents
Why Not Revert To The Python Backend?
We don't want to be wasting time on that. We would rather spend all our efforts on getting the new and improved version live.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The transition to our new Rust backend will ultimately provide a more reliable and scalable platform for all our users, and we appreciate your patience during this development period.
